Hi guys,
For those preinterview happy hour the night before, is it completely casual, like we can just act nonprofessional and more casual? meaning the way I dress, can it just be a tshirt and jeans and tennis shoes? or is it expected me to come in with a dress shirt? No one gets evaluated during these happy hour events right, it's completely chill right?
Thanks!

It's actually a happy hour? at a bar?

Casual and just chill!

If you do something really stupid, the school will find out. Its relaxed, but definitely still part of the "interview" process.

Yeah, don't get drunk and hit on the dean... lol (this actually happened a few years ago)

I think you should dress comfortable, but I would act professional the whole time. Personally, I wouldn't wear a tshirt or tennis shoes but I think neat jeans are fine. But regardless of what you wear, you should be on your most professional behavior. I'm always surprised at how some interviewees seem to let loose way too much the instant they think that nobody important is watching them.

Save that for second look happy hour.

I so wish I was at that 2nd look happy hour... unfortunately I'd decided to skip their second look (it was during my app cycle that it happened)

OP, I highly doubt that anyone will be there to specifically evaluate you, but as Dr. Love mentioned, students/faculty will likely tell someone at the admissions office if you act obnoxious or otherwise put forth a negative image.

That said, I wouldn't dress up or anything like that - it probably isn't that formal.

Just stay away from the "basketball" coach. Especially, if he wants to put his hand in your pants. :meanie:

Not cool.

Sexual abuse is not funny and, no matter how you spin it, can never be something that can be made funny for a joke. Find another topic.

Joke wasn't funny but I think you should take a chill pill.

I was going to go to an interview happy hour at UPenn, but my flight was late, ended up going to a potluck party of MS2's that my host was going to, 10 times better. Either way, the arranged happy hour I was supposed to go to was with a couple students, who I met the next day, from the instructions I had, it was very chill and casual...

Chill out.

When you see what sexual abuse can do close-up -- when it comes from being something you hear about in the news to something that has touched your life in some way (directly or indirectly) -- it can be hard to just "chill". I don't think I'm being oversensitive. If you take a different opinion on that, though, that's fine.

As I recall, the incident in question took place at a Second Look weekend following acceptance. The Dean was neither flattered nor amused. The poor guy's acceptance was rescinded.

Personally, I would wear business casual. Limit yourself to two drinks and don't sexually proposition the Dean unless he/she is really hot and you think it is worth the risk. It usually ends badly.

If I recall the story correctly it was a dean/faculty member, but not one of the ones that they met on the interview day and one that looked a lot younger (and apparently more attractive) than her age. That being said, if you're going to proposition anyone during the happy hour (or second look) at least let it be a fellow applicant or current student lol
