Help please. T'm going for Anesthesia but I have a question concerning the application for a preliminary program. Do you need to post a seperate (different) personal statement?

Thanks for your help.

No. You don't have to do a separate personal statement. I know that some people have done this, but I wouldn't waste the time. People applying to prelim programs will all eventually be doing something else anyway.

Is there a separate listing in freida for prelim programs? Done plenty of research on Anesthes. programs, but just scratching the surface for prelim. programs. I've been looking around there and can't find an independent category like the transitional year programs have.

Something else...are there many Anesthes. programs that have a joint preliminary year that you match into when you match categorical Gas? I'd rather at least stay in the same city (whichever one it ends up being) for PGY1 as the rest of residency?

Any tips on how to navigate these waters from the elderstatesmen here?

Preliminary spots are listed under IM. Click on a state and they will show programs that offer preliminary positions. I'd also like to know the answer to your second question.

I would write a seperate personal statement for your prelim programs, and yet another one if you plan on applying to transitional programs. You should want to express the highest degree of interest possible, unless you don't really care where you end up.
