Hi,

I'm interested in matching in Radiology but only have 3 interviews to date.

Should I use Preliminary or Categorical Medicine as my backup?

I have no interest in completing the full 3 years of Internal Medicine...

Am I better off re-applying for Radiology as a Preliminary intern or as a Categorical intern?

And, finally, does having an extra 2 yrs of ACGME funding for your residency spot make you more attractive as a candidate?

If you have no interest in completing a categorical internal medicine residency then please don't apply to them. So definately go for the preliminary spot. Funding IS an issue as well. While programs will still get some funding from medicare even if you've completed another residency, your spot will not be fully funded and there are just too many very qualified people who will have full funding available to them and you don't want to compete against that. So, if I don't match in Radiology, then should I do a Medicine, Surgery or Transitional Preliminary year?

What's the best from the funding standpoint?
