Hi fellow premeds! If there’s one thing that helps me get through the day, relieve stress, give me ‘inspiration’/encouragement/energy-surges for studying for exams or day-dreaming images of some future premed-success (getting a good MCAT score, getting into med school, becoming a good doc, winning the nobel prize! 🙄 etc.) it’s listening to some awesome music 👍 . Some songs have inspirational lyrics, or some may have just the right musical blend of melody, harmony, chords, rhythm, tempo, and whatnot that somehow has this profound positive emotional effect; it may be a fiddy-cent/eminem rap, or an ‘old rock hit for that matter…

Is there any music that inspires you, or helps you get through tough times in your premed careers…? Is there any music that just helps ‘part the clouds’ and lets a little bit of sunshine your way…? Is there any music that just makes you wanna dance, helps you channel out your anger, stress etc…?

Let’s all build a premed-music list for all of us to share and enjoy! 🙂

Here’s a starter:-

Pre-final/exam/MCAT prep: “It’s the Final Countdown…” –Europe!

Anything by Flock of Seagulls

One Is the Loneliest Number -- Three Dog Night
Downtown -- Petula Clark
Barbie Girl -- Aqua
Habibi -- Amr Diab

10,000 Maniacs: "MTV Unplugged"--I can listen this disc anytime, anywhere
2Pac: "Changes" and "California Love"
Dropkick Murphys: "Live On St. Patrick's Day"
The Rocky IV soundtrack: I've never found better tunes for the gym
Bond: "Born" and "Shine"--good study tunes
Bad Haggis: "Trip", "Ark", and to a lesser degree "Wine Dark Sea"--they're a groovy bunch of dudes and the piping is spectacular

I like to listen to anything by Kenny Chesney...his songs are so relaxing and keep me calm when it's crunch time!

Wow, I don't think anyone listens to the stuff I listen to. I don't know about inspirational or encouraging but "Mandy Goes to Med School" by the Dresden Dolls mentions our future career and is pretty funny. That counts right?

I am, and I'm also an opera fan (mostly Puccini/Verdi before any of the German composers). Apparently Mrs. JV's great-grandfather was a fairly good singer a few years ago. I've got a few of his CD's and until we started dating, I didn't realize that she was related to him.

Oasis is awsome my two favorite songs

Little by Little

and Cast No Shadow (Live at Knebworth 96) <--- this version of the song made me get teary eyed once...

lots of feel good stuff by a great band!

Oh, don't worry...I have an absolute TON of classical! Best music to study with: The 5 Browns (amazing piano playing!), Rimksy-Korsakov (Scheherazade is gorgeous), Aaron Copeland (if your in an American-composer mood 😉), and Yo-Yo Ma (you can't go wrong there!).

So if i ever perform surgery on someone and I get to pick the music that is being listened to, I would def. pick Broken Social Scene's Feels Good Lost, that'd be some good music to cut into someone to.
