Hope someone can answer this. I am in the process of applying and it looks like I have 3 semesters of chem. I do have 1 yr or orgo and 1 semester of p-chem. I tested out gen chem. Can I get credit for the tested out gen-chem? I will talk to my advisor tomorrow and wondering if anyone else was in a similar situation. Thanks!

Your best bet is to check the individual schools' policies regarding credit for prerequisites. There's no blanket rule that applies, as far as I'm aware.

After much deliberation, I decided for me that it was best if I take all the pre-rqs regardless i one particular school would take it or not. The thing is the majority of schools DO require gen chem and you don't want to limit the number of schools you can apply to especially if it's only two measly classes that you've proven you can do well in.

This is extremely variable. Some schools accept AP credit, some accept community college credit, and others refuse to accept AP or community college credit.

Did the gen chem classes show up on your transcript?

My AP Chem test showed up on my transcript, giving me credit for 7 "pass" credits for General Chemistry. I still took gen chem (the honors version though) because I knew that I didn't want to limit myself as far as which schools I could apply to.

Additionally, you might need to just call every school you want to apply to and ask them about your situation. It's a pain, but you'd be saving money by not applying to schools that won't accept your coursework

I think schools require that you take a general chemistry lab also. But I am not sure how it exactly works.

One additional consideration is when you take the remaining prereq. Some schools (Vanderbilt, Cornell) do not accept AP Chem and require prereqs to be filled by end of fall of the application year. Most other schools are either lax or just say it's a matriculation requirement, so you can take it in the spring or summer after graduation.
