hello folks,

i have a pregnant friend (yes, a friend), who cannot swallow big pills and apparently PNVs are pretty big. she was told by friends to take 2 flintstone vitamins with iron and extra folic acid supplements.

is that really ok to use before and during pregnancy?

can you suggest other smaller PNVs - prescription or not.

i'd really appreciate your help!

thanks!

That sounds like a good idea, especially the folic acid supplementation. However, I don't know which prenatal vitamin your friend was attempting to take, but there are some new ones containing Omega fatty acids, which some have purported to benefit fetal neural development and hey, it'll help mom as well. As always, consult your doctor. Hope this helps.

If your friend was given this advice by a doctor, I would trust that. As the majority of people on here are med students (and some residents), the info you get from us should be worth less than whatever you get from the attending that your friend saw. If you don't trust this, go see another doctor- like a real one with an office, not people on a message board.
