As a D1 who may possibly have an interest in specializing, what are some preparations I should start at this point? Other than of course trying to be in the top third or so of my class, and starting to shadow in my specialties of interest?

If it makes a difference, endo and perio are my top choices as of now.

This has been beat to death, but here's the reader's digest.

1) Get good grades. Period. End of sentence.

2) Get better grades than before. Seriously, grades are the #1 by far most important thing in specializing.

3) talk to your department heads at whatever school you're at and get their individual advice. They are the ones choosing applicants for their programs, so they can tell you better than almost anyone here what to look for/do in an application.

4) Get the best freaking grades you've ever gotten.
