Hey guys!

This is my second cycle applying to only MD schools and well, although I've interviewed I have yet to be accepted - MCAT is a 35 evenly distributed and GPA is a 3.3 (although if DO's replace F's with retaken course then it'll be a 3.4 or 3.5) with a BCMP of 3.7

Anyways I have 200+ hours of hospital volunteering, lots of research experience and clinical experience (phlebotomy at current RA job) about average EC's

What do I need to strengthen my app to DO's? Should I shadow a DO? This may be difficult as I work full time so...

Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Also what are the least expensive DO schools in the New York Tri State Area and in general?

Thanks!!!!

you need to shadow a DO. a lot of schools require a DO letter, or strongly recommend it.

as for a "cheap" DO school it doesn't exist, unless you're a New Jersey resident. i think UMDNJ is about 26k for residents. otherwise PCOM, Touro-NY, off the top of my head are 38k and 36k, respectively.

Lecom- E is 28k a year and the living expenses I assume are pretty cheap.

Like said above you will want to shadow a DO and get a DO LOR. Other than that I would say look at your app and see if there is any weak areas in your APP. Bad LOR? Bad/average PS.. Awesome MCAT score btw.. Also there is a DO msar type viewvook that you can find online that has all the pricing info I will post the link when I'm not in class...

Good luck!

Your stats are actually pretty damn good. I'm really surprised they weren't enough for you last cycle. I guess if I were you I would start looking at the rest of my application and find out WTF happened.

As far as I can tell it's two things, 1 I'm a bit lacking EC's and leadership and 2 (more importantly) is my loooow gpa of 3.3 (the way MD's calculate it) otherwise my PS is awesome etc etc

I guess I just need to shadow a DO a bit 🙂

The first time I applied to only top schools in the Tri State NY Area and was WAY late (thanks to the stellar advice of my pre med advisor) so I kind of shot myself in the foot on that one

Your "loooow gpa of 3.3" isn't the problem.

Yup, go find yourself a D.O. to shadow. Google ILearn Mentor Program and you'll find a whole list of D.O.'s in the area willing to let you follow em around.Although you work full time, try and see if you can take like 3 days off and shadow a D.O., then ask for a letter.

Oh. And don't apply late this time!
