Hi guys!
I'm currently in a little bit of a pickle. I'm currently on my first application cycle for vet school and I finished my undergraduate degree this past May, but without all of the necessary prerequisites for all the schools I'm applying to. I need to take Organic Chemistry 1&2, Physics 1&2, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. I have been planning to take these classes at a local State school, but as a non-matriculating student I am not able to register for these classes until mid august. Both microbiology and organic chemistry are already filled.

If I am able to get into these classes at my local community college and take them there instead, would it be frowned upon by veterinary schools? It's not like this is my first choice, but I don't know if I can wait another year to get into these classes at a state school. I'm going to try to hound the professors and the department chairs at the state schools as much as I can, but nothing is guaranteed.
My only other option would be to take them at a local private school, but that would only incur more debt on my part. Would this be something that I shouldn't cut completely out of the picture? Is the debt from 6-7 private school classes that much better than taking courses at a community college?
Thanks guys in advance!!

As long as you check with your individual schools that CC is accepted (a few want ochem and biochem to be taken as upper level) it should be fine. However, with that many not taken, I really don't recommend applying this cycle. Most schools only want a couple outstanding pre reqs for consideration.

Like Lupin said, most schools shouldn’t really care. If they do, it’ll say it on their admissions page (something like “must be taken at a 4 year college or university”). Cornell is one school I can think of where the actual selectiveness of the undergraduate school plays a part in their admissions process. I can’t figure out exactly how much, but they mention it. But yes, most schools will accept classes from a community college and if they don’t they’ll specify that.

You can also just show up the first day and ask for a course override. I guarantee people will drop the first few weeks before the add/drop deadline and you'll be able to snag their seat

I would also double check with the schools that you won't have too many outstanding credits. At my undergrad, this would be 23 credits and would have been too many to be able to apply to all of the schools I applied to.

I second this. I took all my prereqs as a non degree student and I was able to get in the courses in the semesters I wanted to take them. There are always people who drop. Just had to be vigilant about watching registration online for my particular school.
