Just starting. I have an A- in Bio, A- in Anatomy and Physiology 1, A in statistics, A in psychology, A- in communications (public speaking), A's in humanities, A- in English...

But I am going to get a D in physics 1, and an A- in the lab.

Am I doomed? I plan on retaking it, working hard and getting an A. Does it look bad if I wait a whole semester to to retake it?

Secondly, if I get an A the next time, my average in Physics 1 lecture class will be 2.5-2.66 at the highest. I understand that retaking it will be helpful and necessary, but even with a 2.55 Physics 1 average, does this mean I will be below a C for physics permanently and I can never apply to any physical therapy school that requires a C or better on each prerequisite?

Or do they only require that one of the attempts be a C or better?????

Thanks!!!!!

Whether a retaken course is averaged or undergoes grade replacement depends upon the schools that you apply to. I have known a number of people who have applied to and been granted admittance to PT programs after retaking a course, so you should be fine. You however, should be prepared to discus why you received a D your first time taking Physics I in any interviews that you recieve in the future.

You will be fine. Just aim for an A the second time around and be willing to own up to the D the first time in case it is brought up. If not brought up or no need to mention it then don't!

Can I ask why you got a D in the class? It looks like you're quite capable of performing well in other classes, so what happened here? I'm not just curious myself, but schools will definitely ask about this, so you need to prepare a good answer. The best answer would be that you just couldn't commit the time and effort due to circumstances (too much work, family, etc). That sounds reasonble. Many schools mentioned that I took chemistry twice and withdrew from a physics course (it was calculus-based and I was getting crushed).

All you can do is get an A this time. Unfortunately, some, but not most, schools average your two scores, so even with an A, you'll still have a C+ average. Most schools, however, don't care. Considering your academic success in other classes, I think they'll look at this episode as an anomaly.

When you take physics I, make sure you study forces, torque, and levers well. I'm sure that will all come back in biomechanics.

Thank you guys for the responses.

To answer your question Kevin, that is exactly what happened. Will do.

It all depends on the school - some average grades for retakes, others replace the lower grade with the higher one

I got a C- in Physics 2 the first time I took it and was still accepted into a program before I had the chance to repeat it, so there's that. I had a good split of A's and B's in the rest of the prerequisites but no other C's. Don't give up! While GPA is important, I feel that a lot of programs look at the individual as a whole, so hopefully a bad grade or two in a class won't mess your chances up. Best of luck to you!

I took physics during my senior year. My gpa was 3.98 before I took physics. I got a B in the class and a C in the lab. I hated physics with the passion. I would just retake it a community college if you can.
