I am currently completing my bachelor's degree. I completed some of my preques at Community college (1 Chemistry classe and 2 English classes). I want to repeat them at University since I found that most dental schools that have high acceptance rate for out of state students do not usually accept credits from community college. Could you please give me your suggestion on would it be worth repeating 3 courses. And how do dental school respond to preques taken online? Do I have to have them completed before I apply next cycle or can I complete them after I applying during 1 year gap?

From what I learned on SDN, CC classes are not viewed highly by AdComs because they tend to be easier compared to those same classes at a 4-Yr University. I suggest that you retake them before DATs (but after applying is ok) at University. I'm not familiar with taking pre-reqs online--I recommend asking Dental Schools of interest about their policy on this.

I completed EVERY SINGLE one of my prerequisites at community college except for biochem and microbio (for schools that require them). Ended up with 6 pre-december interviews and 3 acceptances on dec 2nd. One in-state school and 2 private school acceptances. I was waitlisted at 2 private schools and 1 OOS state school.

I completed most of my prerequisites at a CC, got accepted to all three dental schools in my state, and I am now a dentist. And no, in my experience classes at my CC were comparable in difficulty to a traditional 4-year school.

CC courses are like snowflakes-no two are alike. There must be a reason why a large number of dental schools try to steer predents away from taking prerequisites at a CC. However, it is also obvious that adcoms view the educational background on a case by case basis. The above two posters are cases in point.

I feel like if you do well in some prereqs at a CC and you show academic excellence in harder courses on the subject ie organic chemistry, pro/euk genetics, biochemistry, micro, neurobiology, etc. at a university, they won't really care about you taking a few prereqs at a CC. However, if you got A's in all your CC taken prereqs and then achieved lower grades in harder classes at the university, then the CC prereqs will be taken with a grain of salt. Just my thought.
