Prescription Drugs Coming to a Machine Near You

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So essentially, all of the maintenance medications will be in these kiosks and all of the narcotics and control substances will be in the pharmacy.. I'm sure the DEA is going to love the percentages of controls vs non control on their visits...

I for-see issues with wholesalers reducing control substance orders based on over all purchases.. For example, Quest Pharmaceuticals requires a pill for pill count when ordering any control substance.. You need 500 Xanax - you gotta order 500 Zestril to go with it..

You're raising lots of great points, thx much! I'm watching the development of these kiosks, will post here anything new I find.

These things sound like a good idea, the way self-driving cars sound like a good idea - NOT!

If this thread was created to freak people out just read this paragraph:

"MedCenter kiosks can safely and securely dispense chronic, acute, and OTC medications under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, and are compatible with both handwritten and electronic prescriptions, according to Express Scripts."

Last I checked a pharmacist is still needed, those poor tech jobs though.

Sure, one pharmacist per how many machines? 20? 50? Imagine having one pharmacist for every 20 Walgreens.

Why feel bad for the techs, who do you think will be restocking the machines? They will still need techs as well, just as much as they will still 'need' pharmacists.

Automation will come for us all in the end.

exactly. instead of 2 FTE for every walgreens there will be one pharmacist per 20 stores and ze will be responsible for video linking witch which ever kiosk has requested counseling.

It's the same questions as usual, who does everything and how is that any different then the current process?

I know I've said this in the last automation thread. The pharmacist still has to review and verify everything (i assume) are they going to somehow do this quicker? The other thing is say one machine does 500 per day, unless that closes a pharmacy, it only increases demand not decrease.

A Walgreens isn't going to close if they go from 350 per day to 200 per day.
