Into a two litre vessel, containing a gas at 0.8 atmospheric pressure, 400 ml of mercury is inected. What would be the new pressure? (there is no evidence of a chemical rxn)

How would calculat this question? The correct answer is 1 atm. But how would you do it? thanks!

v1p1= v2p2

Your initial volume is 2L with 0.8 atm of pressure. After you add 400ml of mercury the volume decreses to 1.6L (since mercury is a solid).
Then

1 x .8= 1.6p
p= 1 (atm)
