Well don't know exactly why I am posting here but maybe it will just help with some of my frustration.

Here is my situation I was planning on getting most my pre-reqs done at a CC and then transfer to a univeristy to finish up and then go to pharmacy school. Well I just got ready to start applying to univerisities around where I live and I am finding out my credits from my CC will not transfer over to another school. So far I have been told pretty much I will just have to start over. I am fine with that because I can test out of a lot of the easy class's. My huge problem is that they will not count my GPA at all and I have a 3.98 right now so that hurts.

Oh and before anyone says should have checked if CC was accredited it is just they use different accredition then the other schools in my state and they say they don't mix with them. I could go out of state but I really have my hopes on going to Univeristy of Utah and staying here in utah.

So guess I am just asking anyone got some advice, a helpful word or am I just going to have to redo everything.

why not just stay at the CC and take any pre-reqs. that they offer? i mean honestly taking them there shouldnt matter that much...others have gotten in coming from CC's so why cant you? Your GPA is stellar...I say you stay there and take whatever it is you have left to take - and then apply. If you dont get in then think about going to a university but I honestly dont think you will have much of a problem. (this is coming from a University student)

Which cc is this? Cause most credits from SLCC transfer over to the U of U. I think it's pretty normal that your GPA doesn't transfer to your new school, but it should be included in the accumulative GPA.

Here's a link that lists schools in Utah and their equivalents to the U of U pre-requisites. http://www.sa.utah.edu/admiss/transfer/major/pharm.htm

Ah hey thanks guys for info didn't expect such a great responce so fast.

The CC I am going to is called eagle gate college. Why I am not just staying there is because they don't offer all the class's I need for pre-reqs. I have talked to some people at U of U and they said pretty much sounds like I am going to have to start over which sucks but whatever I guess. I just would really like that GPA to possibly factor into something since I have worked my butt off and it would be nice to have some of that work be worth something otherwise I just feel like I wasted 2 years. It would have also been nice if say some of my generals could be done or elective credits be done.

well honestly when you submit all of your stuff to pharmcas its all averaged together anyway...so your GPA will not be "lost". just take the classes you still need for pharm school at the university and work on your BS degree....that way you are still making progress on a degree and wrapping up your pre-reqs. at the same time. i wouldnt advise just re-taking everything right off the bat - heck you may get in your first time applying and not need to do all of that!

It doesn't matter whether the undergraduate university accepts your cc credits or not, as long as the pharmacy school accepts the pre-reqs you did there. Unless you try to complete a BS/BA before going to pharmacy school, then I'd say you need to "start over" at the university. Applying for pharmacy schools without a BS doesn't automatically exclude you from candidate list, but it will lower your chances by a lot. It's doable, just 10* harder.

Ok so it won't end up being too bad if I don't earn a BA what it is looking like I am going to end up with 2 AS degrees right now. I just don't want that to look bad like I am stupid or something but I can't see any other option then just going to another school to get my pre-reqs done. Also is it for sure atleast when I apply for pharmacy school they will look at like the GPA from both schools because that would be great if my 3.98 from other school would still help me out.

Thanks a ton too guys for responding makes me fill a bit better because right now I am feeling really dumb by getting my self into this mess. I really wish I had done a bit more research other then just thinking I needed a really good GPA and not focusing on what transfers.

i disagree about making it 10x as hard to get in without a BS...heck thats what most programs are designed to do! But getting back to the topic at hand, pharmcas will average all of your grades so you didnt waste your time! Just go to the university - look at what classes you need for a BS and start taking them along with your pre-reqs. you have left. forget the classes you have already taken, just concentrate on the classes you havent and if you dont get into pharmacy school on your first go around then retake some of those pre-reqs and keep progressing on your degree. This is what I should have done instead of re-taking stuff because now I'm looking at another year (I'm a senior) in order to get my two BS degrees! 5 years + 3-4 years for pharmacy = a lot of debt!

my two cents:

if your cc isn't even accredited to be transfered over for undergrad at U of U, why would pharmacy colleges look at those marks? you better check with the schools that you are interested in just in case! good luck =)

im not planning to get a BS and i got in to pharmacy school. i also took about 20 creds at community college. you will definitely be fine.

good luck...

if u wanna stay in Utah, try USN school of pharm, utah campus. You proly have a good shot with ur gpa even without a degree.

So odd about ur cc. never ever heard of such a thing.

Hey thanks guys I am already kind of getting over it stuff happens now I just have like an extra year of school guess not that big of a deal and a lot of the stuff second time around should be easier so should keep atleast current GPA or maybe even keep a 4.0 this time around.

I looked into that other pharmacy school in utah the one that is like an extension of some school from nevada and I don't know have heard some bad things about it so far.

like i said before...ur 3.8 will still count as far as pharmcas is concerned because u have to send in all of ur transcripts from EVERY school attended.

Bah that kind of sucks I was almost hoping for another chance at the 4.0 hehe.

If you want to get into the U of U COP, then the pre-reqs must transfer. It really stinks that those from Eagle's gate won't transfer, but unfortunately not surprising. Talk to the counselors at the U and then go to SLCC and do the pre-reqs you need. Talk to SLCC they may waive pre-reqs for the pre-reqs you will need for Pharm school. If you want to apply to USN, then e-mail the school and find out if they will accept the classes from Eagle's Gate.

Good Luck

P.S. Utah is great!!!
