Pretty deflating MCAT score. Application Advice?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If most physicians knew 21 was in the high 20th percentile of test takers (and even lower for actual matriculants) they'd probably say you have no chance.

One I talked to got into DMU with an 18 MCAT score in 2005.

OP has 6V 7PS 8BS= 21....What if OP had 11V 7PS 8BS= 26? Would it be competitive?
I would wager to say yes if it were their first test and because you meet the 7+ cut off per section. I think a 10/8/8 would be a more appealing 26.

The problem is not only in his/her verbal score; it's also in BS and PS. In my opinion, that 8 in bio is the biggest hurdle.

I suggest you to look at MDapps of many on SDN...People are getting in with high score in VR and low scores in BS/PS...

How do you know OP is not cut out to be a physician?

If you take the MCAT three times and still only manage a 21 that tells me that you are unable to figure out how to improve. Sure the MCAT is a different type of test than step 1. However, not being able to crack it on the third try is a bad sign. Some people continue to get low scores because they can't figure out VR. that's a completely different situation than not being able to figure out any of the 3 sections like our OP.

I think we agree on something...OP should have done better in BS/PS ( at least a 9).

Yea, the 21 itself isn't what I have a problem with. It's the fact that it was the third try.

100% agree with this. I just saw the overall score and didn't think about the breakdown. Also, since they are not URM status, it might actually be their inability to learn and fix mistakes. I actually feel bad, that's a long commitment, even if it was a half-assed commitment.

What does URM have to do with ability to learn and fix mistakes 😕

I think the OP was playing a hypothetical the first time around, but I admit it could be trolling this time. I think the thread has been rather interesting though. The more senior members pretty much agree that a person in this scenario is game over whereas most other people just give encouragement no matter what.

My previous thread about getting a 33 was hypothetical. It was a score my roommate achieved and something I naively thought I could accomplish. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers. Thanks again for the advice everyone!

Happens to the best of us bro. I learned a while ago to stop comparing myself to other when it comes to Medical School admissions, nothing good ever comes of it.

Lol you know what I meant. If urm status, then they can just run with the lower mcat.
