Ohio Resident, CWRU UG, History Major, Chem Minor, entering senior year

Took the 7/14 MCAT, was averaging 30 on the AAMCs, ranged from 28-33

Clinical Experience:
-Worked in a physical therapists office summer of 2011, ~120 hrs total, about 20/wk
-Shadowing: Multiple areas, not extensive, ~30 hrs total over a period of about a month

Employment:
-Counselor at camp for gifted middle school students, 2011 and 2012
-Spent a summer working in a factory making clothes dryers at Whirlpool Corp.

EC:
-Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, joined Spring 2011, about 100 hrs of service with APO since then, current Sergeant at Arms
-Varsity Athlete, Cross Country/TF, about a 20 hr/wk time commitment

And of course the one thing that is missing that I expect is what is going to kill me is the utter and complete lack of scientific research. Plenty of experience with historical research, but we all know that's not going to help me any. 🙁

Planning to apply to all of the Ohio public schools except maybe NEOMED. Right now I'm looking at

OSU
Toledo
Wright State
Cincinnati
NEOMED (maybe)
USUHS
Mich. St.
Indiana

and after that I have literally no idea where else to apply. and input is greatly appreciated

You don't need to have scientific research, historical research is fine. Med schools just want to see you are curious.

What's really going to kill you is the lack of long term shadowing or clinical volunteer work (besides the PT's office). You are below average on both. How are you going to justify your decision to become a doctor if you haven't seen many MD's or DO's in action?

agreed. i see very little exposure to medicine/volunteerism. people will argue that volunteering in and of itself is not "required" but its a way to show commitment to helping others/get exposure to med at the same time.

That is interesting to me. And as for your other comment, that is what the PS is for. Regardless, looking at what I currently have, any idea what other schools I should look at?
