Hi, all! I just wanted to introduce myself and give a heads up on my situation...
I'm Nicole, I'm 27, I WILL go to medical school (this is my mantra, anyway).
I graduated with my BA in History (minor in Bio) from University of Texas in 2004.
I've wanted to be a doctor for as far back as I can remember, but for a cluster of reasons (largely based on low self-esteem) talked myself out of it in college. Then I had some mental health issues, tried my hand at some other professions, got married and had 2 kids...and here I am now.
My husband is in pharmacy school, so I won't be applying to school anytime soon (I say I'll probably be in my mid-30's by the time that happens) and I'm currently finishing an AAS in respiratory therapy, to pay for my husband's school (which should eventually pay for mine, haha).
I guess I'm just here to gather tidbits of wisdom and support, for now.
My GPA when I graduated was a 3.0, which I'm aware is not good, but I've also taken several classes since then and gotten all A's, so I'm sure its higher now. I'm also planning on retaking some classes with my husband (o-chem, physics, calc, etc.) for a better grade, and also just to brush up. I worked on some pediatric asthma research for a year and a half at UT before my daughter was born, and by the time I actually apply to school, will have had several years experience as a respiratory therapist.
So I guess my goal right now is to pull up my GPA and knock the MCAT out of the park. Gonna be a rocky road, but I'm going to do it!
