I worked in clinical research many years ago, but I don't necessarily want to pursue contacts from my previous jobs as too much time has elapsed or I don't feel confident that a supportive recommendation will be written. It has been about 5 years since I've worked (currently at home with kids). I'm pursuing volunteer work in pharmaceuticals and want to use the supervisors from this venture for my recommendations as well as a current professor. Does this seem okay? Should I press to get a rec from people in the professional world that I haven't spoken to in years??

I would not ask for that person LOR cause it has been more than 5 years. Getting LORs from your current volunteer work and professor will be enough.
