Hi guys,
I applied to HPME when I was a senior in high school and got an interview but was rejected. I have reapplied to Feinberg now as a traditional applicant and was wondering if you guys know about how they deal with such candidates? Do I have a better or worse chance of getting into Feinberg having been rejected by HPME?

Thanks

I have no experience, but I'm guessing they'll view you as new (thus compare your grades/MCAT/etc. with everyone else), but will like that you applied previously.

I hear Feinberg hates it's own undergrads because they take so many each year through the HPME program...

they won't even consider you applied before. that program has a whole other set of things they are looking for and the standards are ridiculously high. good luck!

your previous application as an hpme won't do anything to your chances of applying as a regular applicant. we won't know you applied unless you tell us. and if you tell us, i think it would help, since it shows you are still dedicated to a career in medicine 3 or 4 years later.

hmm...i don't know if there is any truth to this but as i look at each of the classes, there are indeed less regular admits from northwestern than other places.

im not a northwestern undergrad. i just applied to hpme, didnt get in.

are u on feinberg's adcom?

My friend applied to HPME while he was an undergrad at Northwestern. They allow a few sophomores and juniors to apply every year I think. He didn't get in, but then applied again for the regular M.D. program and got accepted. In his case, previously applying definitely didn't hurt him at all.

thanx to all for ur support.

do they keep a record of hpme applications from four years ago? if they did, would they go back and read it?

we have the records...but the hpme admissions process is handled by a completely separate office from the regular MD admissions. there really is no communication between the two offices.
