This is rephrasing of UW question Id 2176
If diagnosed with Primary Hyperparathyroidism, what is the best next step? a) Parathyroidectomy b) Imaging to evaluate for MEN syndromes

the answer given is parathyroidectomy but why not to search for pituitary/pancreatic tumors??

Key phrase is "next best step". Presumably the patient was symptomatic due to the hypercalcemia...take out the parathyroid and go from there. If the patient was also having symptoms from an insulinoma or refractory ulcers due to ZES, then the question isn't good...but I'm assuming the hypercalcemia was the primary issue.

Your explanation makes sense but UW says that "Imaging for MEN syndromes should be done only if it is MULTIGLANDULAR HYPERPARATHYROIDISM or in case of presence of symptoms of other endocrine dysfunction". So by that explanation we dont need to search for other if only Hyperparathyroidism is present.
