Hi,

Does anyone here have any experience with TPR Hyperlearning class and its policies. I have 5 instructors and one of them is really really really stinking aweful. We are now on her fourth lecture and for the fourth time she has read straight out of the book and done the problems straight out of the book. It sucks because you can just buy these books at the bookstore, I don't need to listen to her read for 3 hours.

Should I call TPR and try to salvage what is left of the lectures. Everyone else in the class has complained ever since her first "lecture" but they aren't acting on it. This lady also doesn't know her ***** from her elbow and she is like I am certified in the LSAT, GMAT, GRE, professional pornographic entrance examinations...I have no idea how she passed the test to teach?

What should I ask for? See if they will get rid of her or just ask to sit on other lectures from a different class with a different instructor?

I am a TPR instructor and I actually have never heard of such an extreme problem. I know that if somebody was complained about this much where I am, they would be immediately replaced and either fired or forced to go through training again.

Also, you cannot buy the books at a bookstore...you can get them second-hand online at auction websites (eBay) or locally (craigslist). But I still understand your frustration. What subject is it?

Its Chemistry I wouldn't complain, but I am paying good money for this and for her just to mess around and read from the book for 2.5 hours is really a waste of my time. What can I do?

Aren't instructors supposed to give their own outlines and review how they see fit, she just follows the book and reads from it and goes over the questions between topics in the book.

You actually can buy the books online:

Let me revise what I said before, the students are complaining amongst ourselves but no one has notificed Princeton Review about it yet, should I just go ahead and do so.

Complain to Princeton Review.

We had the same problem with a Physics professor (that we hated him....not that he read out of the book).

He actually did NOTHING in the book, and called us all stupid when we would ask questions.

After the class was over, I made a comment to the powers that be, and they were shocked. I was told that had we complained DURING the class, he would have been immediately replaced if possible or we would have been shuffled to a new Physics professor.

What happens seems to ultimately depend on which location you are at, but it is completely worth complaining. Someone needs to be brave and just do it.

I teach for them. Sounds like you might be in a small market tar course. I don't think many people teach those other tests and mcat

Yes I would go ahead and complain. They might be able to replace her with someone for the second half of your g-chem lectures...and they might even offer some sort of compensation like free tutoring to anyone that needs it. Either way, I would get her out of there, even if it only benefits those coming after you.

i'm doing mcat live online and i'm almost 1/2 way through it. the verbal instructor is horrible. she rarely discusses anything substantive, and spends so much time on her soapbox yapping about her liberal agenda (i am not paying 2k to be told about how gay people are denied basic human rights because they can't marry, or about how ignorant americans are because we live under an illusion of freedom, or about how i shouldn't be a doctor because of health care reform). she also asks us every 60-120 seconds to "give her a green check if we're____" fill in the blank with happy, sad, understanding, glad we're studying, don't want me to teach you, etc. etc.

has anyone else had similar issues? my instructor is tonia howick. i literally want to pull my hair out every time i hear her voice. i haven't complained to PR because the other instructors are great and verbal is bottom of my priority list. When confronted with a bad instructor, what resolution have other people achieved?

I had the same problem with a TPR instructor. Wished I would've taken Kaplan, but who knows if that would've been better.

From personal experience, if you complain they will replace the instructor immediately and send a letter of apology. I would definitely inform TPR!

Let them know and don't feel bad about it. You're forking up an assload of money to prepare you for your test and deserve at least a moderate level of competence.

I am actually quite happy with my experience with TPR. I made a complaint against an instructor for skipping over some of the material/cutting short the class (she had made some comment about how she didn't think the material was important and she had a meeting to get to) after one class to the office staff when class ended around 11AM and got a call around 2 PM from the national office with an apology stating that the verbal instructor was placed on probation and would be replaced for the rest of the class. The gentleman also offered a list of classes in my area that had yet to offer that class (I think it was verbal?) that I could sit in on as well as a few hours of free verbal tutoring to make up for it (which I gladly accepted and think it helped).

TPR takes care of it's students--It has to! It's business depends on its reputation! They know that you are paying a bunch of money for the course and that if you like it you will recommend it to your friends. More importantly, if you are not happy with the course, they would much rather you address with them and for them to make it up to you, than for you to tell your friends (or people on SDN) that it was a poor course and not to take it!

You reported on a verbal teacher lol you are a superstar

lol I had her verbal class earlier today. She seemed ok, but the constant asking to check yes or no got a bit aggravating. So be it, if it helps.
