Hey guys,

Quick question. I am taking DAT May 10th, studying for 4 classes and 2 labs, am married and have a son that I would like to spend time with 🙂

Question is: I have plenty of volunteer hours, club activities, awards, scholarships, etc etc. However, in 2013 that stopped abruptly as I got pregnant and had my son.

I have an opportunity now to gain an officer position in a club that raises funds/volunteers those who need access to care.

I'm really torn b/c I would love to be a part of the club. But I am not sure if I can fit it in. I am already going from 7:00 am-8:00 pm daily.

Do you think it is worth it to try to squeeze in that extra EC just to show that I am doing something still, even as a parent? Or do you think admission will understand?

BTW, I am applying to a school that emphasizes community service and working in underserved areas (this is the ONLY school I am applying to, which makes this all the more complicated!)

Would love opinions! What would you do??

The opinions you get may be more applicable if we knew the school and your GPA. 🙂

If it's ASDOH, definitely do the community service. They value this more than your numbers.

Ziggy's info says she's from Florida, so I'm guessing it's one of the FL schools.

I agree that grades and DAT are supremely important. However, if grades and DAT are just average, there needs to be something else to set you apart.

My GPA is 3.66 and I'm applying to LECOM

Yeah... I wouldn't worry to much about the ECs for LECOM. 🙂 As you said, you already have plenty! Your grades and DAT score will help set you apart even further.

Ok, I guess I kind of knew the answer before I asked, but I'm a nervous wreck right bc of the whole only one school thing...trying to do every little bit that I can. I'm just going to focus on my classes and dat right now. Thanks guys 🙂

For Lecom, just have your grades/DAT above average, dabble in a few volunteer projects for the underserved, and think of ways in which you love PBL.
And basically just suck up during the interview to how much you like PBL, and how you did this and that with the under-served. You'll be golden.
