Anyone going to Pritzker in the fall? I'm going unless Emory Financial Aid hooks me up with an offer I can't refuse.

I'm an alternate, but I'm not sure if I'll get off the list. A couple weeks ago I sent them some supplementary materials to demonstrate my interest. We'll see.

Hey, if I did get off the list I'd have to decide between Pritzker and Case Western. Anyone out there have any convincing reasons to choose either? (PM me please.)

yeah, do you guys have any news on the waitlist? The other thing is I have a feeling that people aren't really HELD to the May 15 deadline thing. It seems like I've heard people waiting on waitlists when they've been accepted to other schools already. I thought the whole purpose is that May 15 people who are accepted HAVE to make a decision. Either risk it and see if you get off a greater desired school's list and matriculate, or just take your acceptance and call it a profitable year.

Another Pritzker alternate here...

Here is how I think the waitlist thing works:

By May 15, you must be holding an acceptance at only 1 medical school. You can stay on waitlists beyond May 15th. I don't think there is any limit to the number of waitlists you can be on. However, let's say June 1st you get a letter saying you're off the waitlist at School A, and on May 15th, you had withdrawn from everywhere but School B. The day you tell School A you want to go there better also be the same day you say "adios" to School B. Beyond May 15, you must always be holding only 1 offer.

As for Pritzker's procedure, their alternate pool and waitlist is unranked, but the impression I got was that it was possible to be in the alternate pool and then sometime around May 15th be told that you were no longer being considered for admission.

Hope this helps,
Jenna

Hey CTIL-

Im heading to chi-town next year for a little pritzker action as well! uc definately had some of the coolest students of the schools i went to, and what a *sweet* med-ed building.

come to chicago - atlanta's too muggy! im in nyc now, thinking about moving to chicago in early august though - get adjusted before the hell starts.......

how many people on SDN have said that they are going to UChicago? I think I've seen at least 5 or so ....

Gumshoe

ps- i heard from a student that the waitlist is unranked, and they go regionally/diverse ... so if you are the type of student that has characteristics similar (not necessarily stats at all, I guess we are past that stage) to another that has been accepted, and he decides not to go, you are next in line. It's a sort of preservation of diversity. Strange. I hope you understand that explanation.

We'll see what goes on. Most likely we won't hear until late May or June

hmmm, maybe we should start a Pritzker alternate list here... congrats, CTIL and indiemd, on getting in! i'm jealous, what can i say. i'd like to get in and join y'all, but we'll just have to wait and see...

Ooh! Ooh! Can I be a part of the club too?!

Bummer that Pritzker dropped a few spots in the USNews. What gives?

Indiemed. . .I recommend moving to chi-town early summer. . .Summertime in chicago is the bomb. I live on the North side, but I may move to lovely hyde park in the fall.

I forgot to say good luck to everyone who is waiting on Pritzker. I'm not quite sure how I managed to slip through the cracks.

I interviewed at Pritzker on Feb 24 and I have yet to hear. I'm the queen of wait lists so I'm betting on a waitlist snail mail.

Hey guys. Just wanted to say that I was just placed in the alternate pool as well although i must say that i interviewed very late (2nd to last day of interviews) so it wasn't much of a suprise.

I'm not too hopeful of my chances as Pritzker probaby has a bunch of great applicants to choose from when waitlist is finally compiled.

If by some miracle I do get in, I will be there this fall. Book it.

Just some anectdotal info though that I noticed about last years Pritzker waitlist thread on SDN. A some of the posters on there did not end up going to Pritzker even though they were accepted. I remember reading about how some of them had firmly decided to go to Pritzker when suddenly they got an acceptance elsewhere and they bolted. This was occuring as late as the end of June. Things will get hot and heavy then assuming we all actually make the waitlist. I guess the my letter said that they usually take about 25 from that waitlist so I bet they probably put double that number on the waitlist. Everyone else probably gets whacked end of April.

Good luck everybody.

Please, Explosivo, make my heart stop. I love your sn, btw -- I'm addicted to Tenacious D. 😉

So, can I hijack the thread? I'm hijacking the thread. If you want your thread back, CTIL, start an *OFFICIAL* one (j/k -- congrats to you and indiemd, I'm just being silly 😀 ). This way, we can send Pritzker a list of SDNers who should be on the waitlist and not get "whacked," as Explosivo so eloquently put it.

I am now an alternate - I guess that means I'm waiting to get on the waitlist. That's so vauge.

Every day is more depressing than the last. NYMC is my only hope.

Yeah, we need to keep this post up. I have some info regarding the AdCom ... if you want it, PM me

I think my box is no longer full. I didn't know they could GET full??!!!!!

Gumshoe

Hey all, I'm on the alternate too!

I really hope to God I get, although I'm in at U of PItt, i think I'd got U of C over simply because it's close to home. You better believe i'll be writing a letter in a few days letting them know i"m in somehwere else but would def. attend their school. Hope that will work!
peace

Howdy, uofchopeful -- thanks... I'm blushing... 😳

While I'm at it, I PM'd you, Gumshoe.

Welcome to the list, Mr. H (and emotis, officially). Pritzker's gonna be so thankful that we're relieving them of the work of having to make the list on their own. We are such great premeds, don't you think? 😉

Well it's not so much a "list" as it is a "pool." Sometime in April the "wait-list" is made from the "pool" and presumably those that don't make the wait-list are whacked.

Looking at the calendar, I bet they're going to compile the wait-list next week after the Easter holiday.

I suggest sending them an update letter if you've done anything of import lately. If not, at the very least send them a letter/e-mail/carrier pigeon to let them know you are still interested.

Explosivo, you talking about the western Easter or Orthodox Easter? A week difference ... kalo pascha

Blitz, I think right now they are very hard to contact only because since that last meeting of the year, they have to be thinking about contracting the waitlist at least preliminarily (I assume). I'm wondering if there is any chance for admitting ANYONE until the new May 15 deadline. I have a feeling that most of these punks that eventually choose not to go to U of C do it LATE ... maggots

Gumshoe

ps- Mr. H, go to Pitt, man .... hehehe!

I'm talking about Western Easter.

I figure next week is when they'll decide b/c it is conveniently the last full week of April and they did say they will cut it down by the end of the month. Passover also starts this week as well so you have a bunch of religious holidays all at the same time. I think it just sense to do it then.

This seems like the only thread I've been living for lately ... all those others suck. Yeah, I hear you on that next week call.

BTW, do most people waiting on Pritzker have an acceptance already? I'd just like to know ...

Explosivo, do you consider yourself to have really good stats or app? I remember you telling me one time ...

Well, look, I've had 6 interview invites (2 declined), 1 rejection, 1 acceptance, and 2 alternate pools.

I'm not exactly a stellar applicant--at least not in comparison to many on SDN that have double digit interviews and at least 3-4 acceptances. I wasn't a pre-med psycho until my Jr. year in college so I didn't go all out and prepare for going to medical school until late in the game. Had I gone in as a freshman pre-med, my app would have been a lot more polished and I also probably would have gotten in the first time through. To a large extent my app has been a haphazard cut and paste job which I managed to put together without much guidance from a premed advisor b/c I have been out of school. Nevertheless, I acheived my goal.

Yeah, I mean, I've got some stuff together ... great recs decent gpa, some research and volunteer stuff, but by no means what the people on here talk about in terms of must have gpa and mcat

yo, I recently heard from another school in chicago that my essays (or something in my app, I assume essays) didn't show them that I definitely wanted to be a doctor. I was wondering about this. They said my academics were fine. But they didn't grant me an interview. Does that basically mean that they didn't really like my personal statement --- it wasn't what they were looking for? I'm about to review their secondary questions to see if this were true... hmmmm just wondering

HOlla

Six interviews and nothing yet. 5 waitlists. But my tale of woe has been told before.

I did get an email from Columbia today asking me to call the dean (who incidentally was already gone by the time I checked my email). Second interview? Maybe? Please? Cross your fingers for me.

::crossing fingers:: Good luck, emotis!

Hey my Pritzker peoples -- sounds like today is the day that all the med schools have to let applicants know whether or not they're waitlisted, accepted, or rejected, so maybe we'll find something out in the next few days...

haha... maybe so, so perhaps i was misinformed? i find it interesting that numerous schools are aiming for april 15th for some sort of list-making. of course, i just might be biased, having received 2 rejections (oh, woe is me... 😉 ) yesterday after 6 months of nothing. for now, though, my dear blitz, i will trust you and defer to your superior wisdom and knowledge. in the meantime, i'm off to stalk the mailman... 😉

cheers, y'all 😀

maybe you meant "day by which we have to send in our taxes?"

😎

Hi All

I am not going or trying to go to Pritzker but I did go to Undergrad at UC and had Dr.Lombard (he actually wrote me a rec) - just so you know he travels extensively so that may be why you can't reach him. He is a wonderful person so if you get to talk to him take advantage b/c he has done some really interesting stuff.

I just got my aid package from Pritzker. Its ugly man. . .real ugly. Maybe I can live in an L car so I won't have to pay rent.

I'd consider doing one of the military programs, but I don't really want to play any part, however small, in the carrying out of the "Bush Doctrine."

Pritzker tuition is like 29K / year, no? What is "ugly" about your package? I have no idea what they even consider giving people.

Hey man, Green Line El ---> high quality living ... you can get drunk with the bums and then be a ruminant!

TAke care guys,

CTIL, I know exactly how you feel. I'm a poser too. At my interviews I claim to love people and care about them genuinely, but if I had to join the military and actually prove it by helping free Iraqis from a murderous dictator by fulfiling Bush Docterine, then my cover would be blown too.😉

Wolferman,

You seem to be referring to the Bush "Docterine," whereas I was referring to the Bush Doctrine. . .although if you spell them both out, neither make sense.

Very amusing, boys ... but please let's stick to the Pritzker at hand, and not get into a political debate.

Although I must admit that it is strange when people are still parading around saying "No to the war" when the war is over! I haven't really understood that one ... ahhhh the masses ....

The true sign of a person losing an arguement...they begin pouncing on spelling errors.🙄

Grammarian usually has little to contribute to a discussion and possesses few effective weapons. To compensate, he will point out minor errors in spelling and grammar.

I like it, but it doesn't quite fit in this exchange. CTIL was able to coin his own term while insulting no one.

Everyone is accepted ...

We must wait a couple of months for the Exodus ...

In the meanwhile, I will part the waitlist like Moses did the Red Sea

Have a blessed holiday

Gumshoe

I have gotten some news since I am in correspondence with such quality peeps as the hopeful one ...

anybody got any guesses about how many will come off the waitlist? Also, just interested ... how many do you think are in the "pool" that will then be made a "waitlist" ... and how many are in that waitlist?

May 15 approaching. I'll go get a tan now.

BUMP

Just got into Pritzker and will be there this fall or "autumn" as they say at the UofC.

So, any other SDNers going besides indiemd, CTIL and myself?

Well, congratulations to Explosivo. Good man:clap:

I'll take it humble from here. I hope I can get a call. So, I know CTIL has been in for a while ... has indiemd? Anyone else?

I hope someone comes with good news. Do you think they offer 5 acceptances more per week here on out? it's probably impossible to say

Gumshoe😳

Bump...CTIL, indiemd, Gumshoe where are you guys?

Anybody else...?

Maybe if this thread had the word "OFFICIAL" in the title there'd be more responses. 🙂

Just figuring out what to do for the summer. Finally the good news is sinking in. It won't fully until the time to start up comes near. When is the start of the quarter/semester/whatever you call it?

Aight, I'm hungry and I have some grilled octopus dancing in some extra virgin that has my name all over it.

😛

check it

Grilled octopus in extra virgin? You Greek boater... j/k 😛

Dude I just checked out the orientation page and they say the first day of orientation is Sept 22nd. First day of class is the 29th.

Btw, I'm definitely going to Hellas this year. I'm probably going down there for a month in late July early August.

Have you checked into housing at all?

Things that make you go HMMMMMMM

Not sure about housing, might be living in Bridgeport at the time of matriculation

I think I might hit Spain and Greece, too ... 22nd is late.

What about Financial Aid. Any tips for how to cover that the best way?

Hi all! I will be joining you at Pritzker! Just got off of the waitlist this morning. So excited!!!!! 😀

Finally there's life! Gosh I've been seeing all the action on the Northwestern and Loyola Class threads and I've been getting jealous. 😛

Congrats Melmo! :hardy:

Well, the hopeful one is no longer hopeful. He has been abruptly booted off of the Pritzker waitlist as of this morning . . .
