How well do privately owned pharmacies do in Canada as compared to the U.S?

Is it the same? Meaning, is there still a large preference for name brand pharmacies or do private pharmacies actually have better success rates up there?

The big pharmacy chains and grocery stores pretty much dominate in Canada. However, there are still a number of private specialty pharmacies around - I'm thinking of ones that almost exclusively serve nursing homes and the type that almost exclusively do compounding. That said, in some of the provinces, such as Ontario, each and every pharmacy must be owned by a licsensed pharmacist, which means those that own the franchise to a busy pharmacy do extremely well. We're talking minimum guaranteed income of 100K from year one without any investment. However, I'm sure its very competitive to get into a deal like that.
