private practice

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm sort of interested in practicing in a private setting in the future, but how common is it that physicians in such a setting are also able to do basic clinical research?
I don't know how common it is, but you can do it. Set up a practice, staff it with great docs and nurses, and in a couple of years you'll be set. Of course this all downplays the difficulty of it.

You could easily be a clinical research subject. Might not be a bad way to make some extra cash.

Another possibility is to work in a private setting but then attach yourself to a larger (state/nation wide) study. A big downside to this is that you would have little freedom to research what you want to research, but it would give you a start.

It also depends a lot on what area of medicine you want to practice and how close to major research institutions you want to practice.
