Hello all,

Yesterday I went online to pcatweb.com to register for the PCAT test. I eventually cancelled it because I wasn't sure about several things.

1. About the schools themselves. Do all schools require students to send the official scores of PCAT directly from pcatweb (test center)?

2. is it true that private schools are more favorable than state schools in terms of #of students from out of state?

3. I am considering about sending the PCAT scores directly to UIC, Western Univ. Pomona, Loma Linda, Mercer, Creighton. Do you think I'll get the chance for UIC etc.?

Thanx

1. some still do not but you can safely assume that they do. if want to be sure go to www.aacp.org and check on "student/applicant" section. they list all the school requirements for the schools that are accredited.

2. it is about 80% true. just because state schools are obviously run by state therefore they tend to go w/ state resident rather than out of state once it comes down to it. state residents also get pretty good tuition discount. private schools tends to care less about those since tuition difference is relatively small.

3. no one knows. it is a lot less painful to send the scores directly from the company. just cross your fingers.

hi kwakster928,

since you're from philadephia, do ya go to univ. of pittsburgh, just curious.
How cold is it there in winter?

With PharmCAS participating schools, you just enter one code on the PCAT - code #104. That goes to PharmCAS, and then PharmCAS will send your score out to each participating school.

For non-PharmCAS-participating schools, you have to send the score to each school.

no i will be going Temple. it gets pretty rough. last year it was horrible. if you are from CA, you will def hate it.. last year i remember the days the high was only on 30's and low sometimes went down below 0. that was like whole winter so if you hate being cold, well i suggest you to apply warmer schools.

p.s. i am just lil puzzled by your analogy. philadelpha to u of pittsburg. u know pittsburg and philadelphia is about 500 miles away. it is understanable if you dont know PA well.

Yeah, my brain was twisted. Well, pittsburgh is in pennsylvania and philadephia is a different city. Sorry for that.

Not all of the schools require the PCAT including California pharmacy schools (Western University and Loma Linda). Private universities such as USC use the same criteria to evaluate out-of-state applicants as they do California residents.

No, you need to check each school to see what their requirements are. If they go the PharmCAS route then you just have the PCAT sent to them and they will send them to the schools you choose. If not, you have to send them seperately. Keep in mind that not all schools require the PCAT either.

I would think that private schools are more receptive to out of state students simply because the public schools get state funding based on the percentage of students from instate (maybe not universal, but from what I've read this is the case for most states.) Private schools rely mostly on tuition so aren't as picky when it comes to instate/out of state considerations.

I'm really not sure what you are asking here. Get the chance for what?
