Hey guys,

I was wondering if I get hired as a PRN pharmacist at a hospital, will I ever get to make my schedule in advance? Or will I pretty much be "on-call," at the mercy of whenever they call me to come to work with short notice?

Thanks

Our PRN pharmacists mostly know thier schedules in advance, but they are called in on short notice sometimes in "emergancy" situations. Also sometimes they are put "on-call" - but that is relatively rare in our case, for the most part they are given their schedules in advance. They mostly cover vacations/days off/etc, so being on call is resirved for special situations where there is the possiblity of needing more help, but we aren't sure if we will or not. I would say maybe one day a week or less is the norm for being "on-call". If you are on call, you get a call usually before noon to let them know for sure if we need you or not so you are not waiting all day.

Our PRN people have one set day a month and then the rest is picking up vacations and sick days, etc. They hardly ever come in at short notice though because they work elsewhere..so pretty much just their 1 day + scheduled far in advance vacations.

hey guys just curious, how do you get a position as a per diem/prn pharmacist? Do I have to go through an agency? I am currently working in retail but I am looking to gain some hospital experience a few days a week.
