Well, it looks like I'm going to get screwed by my analytical chemistry class - I'm guessing I'm going to get a C if I'm lucky. Should I send a note to adcoms where I have an interview pending and explain to them that the current average in that class is a 41 and the professor is an anal (it is analytical chem after all), arcane dinosaur with poor didactic skills and an unwillingness to accept any partial credit on exams, or should I just wait until I interview and then try to explain it when they request transcripts from this semester? I'm probably going to get an A in biochem and a B in advanced cell/molec bio this semester so it's not really like I'm slacking, it's just that this one class is ridiculously hard - what are my options here?

Why draw attention to this? Maybe they won't notice. Don't send a negative update. That's just silly. Updates are for selling yourself with all the wonderful things you've done since processing your AMCAS.

😕 Lol 😕:laugh::laugh:
Why would you bring up something like this. They're judgin you on what you have in front of them now.

Just my 2-cents: you come across as a bit whiny and it sounds like you're making a bunch of excuses - EVEN IF YOU AREN'T. Just see what happens. For instance, I had straight A's for 7 out of my last 8 semesters in college, but one D Fall of senior year (doh! do NOT go into an exam that requires rote memorization of math forumulas... unless you memorized the ****ing formulas).

I was asked at 1 interview about my big, fat D (that doesn't sound right), but it didn't amount to much because I was accepted there anyway!

Good luck on the trail.

All right. Looks like a clear consensus on "no." The only reason I was asking is because they're probably going to find out about it sooner or later. In my crazy logic, I figured that hearing it from me (with my spin) was better than seeing it on a piece of paper.

Yeah, I definitely come across as whiny and excusatory when it comes to a-chem, no denying that. The only thing I mastered in a-chem is how to b*tch constantly about a-chem.

Also, will getting a D in this class most likely invalidate any acceptances I do happen to get?

You don't want to tell them about it because, like said above, it would bring attention to something they might not otherwise notice--it would be like scratching a mosquito bite.

Getting a D would probably raise some eyebrows. For the love of God try to get a C. Though the guy above did fine, he also had a 4.0 for everything before that.

Study your ass off and good luck. :luck:

Getting a D usually has other consequences unrelated to med school like... usually you need a C or above for a class to count towards your major (at least at my school, that's the case).

I came clean about selling illicit painkillers for beer money. They said they were impressed by my entrepreneurial initiative.

Seriously, why would you do this? A C won't keep you from getting your degree and won't keep the class from counting towards your pre-reqs. If schools find you good enough to offer an acceptance, they generally don't care about grades unless you REALLY bomb your last semester. If its not going to help your app, why would you tell them?

definitley NOT. It's unlikely anyone will look at your transcript until before you matriculate to make sure that 1. you graduated, 2. you met all the pre-req's, and 3. you didn't show a ridiculous decline (one class is not a ridiculous decline).

Also, if you do decide to tell them, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER blame a professor for a bad grade in a class. It makes you look like a typical whiny premed and shows a lack of maturity.

See, if I were an ADCOM I'd give you points for honesty and having a sense of humor about the subject. Unfortunately, I am a mere medical student, and hold no power whatsoever.

Yes, I re-took the class and got an A. It was actually the easiest math class I ever took in college; way easier than Calc I, II, or III, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, etc. BUT it was also the only math class I took that relied primarily on rote memorization, and I was too over-worked and stricken with senior-itis to care until I sat down to take the final, realized I was a goner, and promptly handed it in with a, "See ya next semester." Good times, good times 🙂

That's a tricky situation that depends on several factors.

Is it towards your major? Some schools (mine did) require at least a C in all classes of your major to get your degree. If you do not receive your degree in time (i.e. were unable to take and complete some equivalent class over the summer that your university would accept), that would surely rescind any acceptances.

Is it towards a prereq for the med school? If so, you'll have to complete SOME form of accredited class which fulfills that requirement prior to matriculation (though it would not necessarily have to be from the same school). This would likely not result in any rescinded acceptances however.

If its something you're taking just for fun (though I have no idea why anyone would take analytical chem for fun) as long as you had enough appropriate credits to graduate with your degree, its really nothing to worry about.

Might as well come clean about the time you drank a bottle of Bacardi 151 which resulted you waking up butt naked in the middle of Time Square.

Might as well come clean about the time you were at the mall with your friends and they dared you to drink a bottle of ex-lax which caused you to "spoil" your pants while in the elevator with an attratice female.

Holy **** I disappear for a couple hours and a new catchphrase has already started. I get it - mum's the word.

Might as well come clean about that time you were drugged and left for dead in a Mexican crypt and all you got was that stupid t-shirt...*Best. Movie. Ever.*

Might as well come clean about your side business of collecting pubes to make wigs and sell them to politicians.

I love where this thread has gone

might as well come clean about how your rigorous masturbation schedule is preventing you from holding down a job

let's try to keep this even remotely on topic.. or just let the thread die 🙂

Might as well come clean about how you love the humor in this thread despite the whole "acting like a mod" thing...
