Problem with EK Chapter 6 Passages

Does anyone have trouble with EK Ch 6 -- 30min Passages? I had no idea what I was reading on Passage #2. Even after reading the explanations, I am still unsure. How do I prevent such thing happen if I encounter similar problem in the future? Not necessarily on the same subject, but just things that are new and I have never heard of. How should I incorporate things that I learned to it?
