Everytime I try to enter my personal statement into the application (by pasting it from Notebook) it works fine until I save it and I see that it cuts off my last sentence and always cuts off at 5216 characters. The entire thing is only 5230 characters so its not exceeding the 5300 limit, but it always cuts it off at 5216!!! Whats wrong? What do I do?? Thanks guys!

This happened to me too, and I don't understand. Hopefully someone can shed light on it.

Are you sure all the punctuation is being counted (.'," etc)?
I don't know about this year, but last year a hard return counted as 2 characters. I can't imagine you have that many returns, though. Good luck.

I had some problems too. I managed to fix them by backspacing all of the line breaks out and then putting them back in all while I was in the AMCAS application program. That somehow fixed it (some of the line breaks were being considered as more space because of some formatting issue from notepad).

I just tried doing that..and it did delete about 5 spaces, but it still reverts back to 5216. i only have 8 more characters to put in, but it wont let me! frustrating!! thanks for your help though! i appreciate it.

Are you indenting your paragraphs? If you are, that could be taking up space count. Drop the paragraph indents. Just use a blank line inbetween paragraphs. Might not be the problem but, it's an idea.

The only other thought I had is to use contractions to get 8 more characters.

Good Luck.

I used a different computer to input my essay again and it worked. Then I went back to the old computer and opened up the application and the entire 5230 character personal statement was still saved. So, if you having the same problem, just try using a diff. computer.
