Has anyone previously experienced problems with getting their stipend and/or bonus on time when their Benefit Start Date passes? I've been told that whoever is in charge of putting you in the payroll system usually messes things up and it takes a couple of months to get things straitened out.

Any input on the subject would be really appreciated.

I am getting ready to commission with the Navy Sept 1. Everything that I have found and heard from my lead processor (different than my actual recruiter) was that it can take up to 30 days from your BSD until you start receiving your stipend payments and bonus. But obviously they backpay you the stipend payments that you should have received had there not been a lag.

depends if your information gets messed up. REgardless, expect at least 15-30 days after your 1st day of school to receive anything. If anything abnormal occurs, call HPSP office at fort sam houston.

You are essentially correct, and here is the reason why. If the HPSP office has received your information PRIOR to your class start date, they will inform the Finance Office that you are to start to ACCRUE benefits as of your class start date. That DOES NOT mean you get paid on your class start date. It can take 15 -30 days to receive your first stipend payment based on when your class start date is in relation to the pay cycle. If the class start date is 28 July do not look for a payment on 1 August, the finance office has it's own cycle of processing and it may differ from service to service, holidays, leave and sick schedules at the individual office.

The best that you can do to ensure that you get paid as quickly as possible is to keep in touch with your recruiter and ensure your paperwork is processed as fast as possible.

So what if your Benefit Start Sate is something like 7 September (that's when classes start) Should I look for a stipend payment on the 15th of Sept? or should I be more realistic and look for it around 1 OCT? Also, do the bonus payments of $9,000, $9,000, and $2,000 come during your regular stipend payment date or could I possibly look for them on different dates than the 1st or 15th of the month??

Realistically, don't look for a check until 1 Oct, if you get paid on the 15th it'll just be a nice surprise. The bonus is paid differently. Once you receive the first stipend check, the bonus starts to kick in. We have heard of it being all paid within one week and we have also heard that it has been paid over 3 weeks (hence the 30 day timeframe after the stipend check).

Again, this all depends on getting your packet to the HPSP office prior to the class start date.

Right, like in the real world, expect delays. My experience along with my classmates showed very diverse times ranging from 1 week to a month for the bonus. Sometimes the bonus comes with your stipend and sometimes it comes at random dates (i.e. 2nd or 4th week) of the month. It all really depends when the finance department. Once your stipend kicks in, you don't have to worry about anything because that means you're in the system and will get paid the 1st and 15th of each month. Make sure to keep an eye out on your bonus and make sure you receive it all. Some of my classmates only received the 9k and 9k and not the 2k so be sure to check.

Good info guys, thanks for the replies. I think this will help out everyone who's about to commission into the Military via AFHPSP.
