What is the procedure for May 15. Am I supposed to write a letter to the school that I do not want to attend and make sure that it gets there by the 15th? Is it sufficient to e-mail or just postmark something by the 15th? Do most candidates write "thank you, but no thank you," for the admission? If someone could fill me in, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I wrote something to the effect of I enjoyed your school, was honored to have been accepted, but have decided to attend X school due to X reason, regretfully withdraw my application, etc. Obviously, you don't have to give a reason or tell them what school you are going to attend.

I think I mailed mine by the May 15th deadline. Some people have sent e-mails, but sending a formal letter is probably the best etiquette.

I keep getting mixed signals regarding this. Is an emalil sufficient? I don't really think the schools care what method you contact them, they just appreciate that you contact them. Someone please clarify this for me. I figure information in allo is less chaotic than in pre-allo.

I sent emails everywhere. Most schools wrote me back confirming my withdraw. For those that didn't confirm my email, I wrote a letter and will be mailing them Thursday and Friday.

I called first and then wrote e-mails or letters based on what they requested. Some schools wanted the e-mail so that they could have my written withdrawal as soon as possible and start taking others off the wait list. Others wanted the formal written letter because they thought that e-mails could be faked too easily. When in doubt, call.

By May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), each applicant who has received an offer of acceptance from more than one school choose the specific school at which the applicant prefers to enroll and withdraw his or her application, by written correspondence delivered by regular or electronic methods, from all other schools from which acceptance offers have been received.

I sent emails to the schools telling them i was withdrawing and then asked them whether or not the email would suffice or if they needed a letter or a phone call. Most of them accepted the email, then proceeded to ask me why i was withdrawing.

I think nowadays, an email will do, unless the school wants in in writing, which they will most probably tell you.

Also, i believe any letters have to be postmarked by the 15th.
