My orgo professor curves the other class ( its the same subject) just incase you ask. Anyways, I calculated my grade and i know i got at least an A-.But when i was talking to this other girl who was in my molecular bio class, she would say there class got a curve and we would get a nice big fat Zero. If i just received 5 measly points from the curve that she got in her class i would have a solid A. I also talked to the professor about this and it was like talking to a wall. My class average is around 45-55 every test with me and some others messing up the curve. So the question is, should i just take the grade and shut my mouth or take it to the dean. I dont see why i should get an A- just because i picked the wrong class time while the other class can get a B+ and get away with the same grade.

I guess it's this time of year. Maybe we should start an official "I want a grade higher than I earned thread."

I would rather he did not curve at all, i agree with you on that respect. but its that people earning less in the other class get the same grade i received.

Take it to the dean???? Are you serious? Dude... THIS is why everyone hates premeds.

It may be that the other classes total test average is lower than your classes. I know of some professors that curve to a certain average to maintain a reasonable distribution within each class.

Its not fair to the folks in either class, but its the professors call no matter what. Just find some comfort in the fact that you have a greater understanding of the material and are in a better starting place for MCAT studying.

Maybe their class average was lower and therefore got moved up to your class's average in order to make both classes on equal ground?

Such is life. If the tests are different between classes there is no reason to apply the same curve, even if the subject is identical. Another key point to remember is that different sections receive different lectures. The plan might be for identical lectures, but maybe he/she got sidetracked when discussing keto-enol tautormization in one section and confused the class. Thus when it showed up on the test half the class misses the question, meanwhile the other section knew the answer easily.

One odd fact of life, it is not fair. Professors are not necessarily fair and they do not have to be. Besides, an A- in orgo is not bad.

Talk to your professor about it. If you go over their head based on hearsay it's only going to be bad news. This is the lesson that dude who lost his residency in that other thread failed to learn.

Never mind...Ill just take it..but im still ticked off about it lol..wish medical schools werent so hard to get in 🙁

???? An A- in orgo won't keep you out of medical school at ALL. An A- is an excellent grade for orgo. I got a B- in orgo, and it's never come up in an interview. Chill out, put it behind you, and do your best in orgo 2.

The same professor teaching two different sections happens all the time. If there really is an unfair curve as you claim, which I personally doubt given the two different exams for each class, then it will work itself out in another class. Unless you'd be willing to go to the professor and ask for a lower grade when you're in the luckier class, then you really should look at the big picture and stop worrying about an A versus an A-.
