What is a good way to get the teacher to know your name? The reason I ask is there is a really cool professor who I really like b/c he's not only engaging but makes the material fun. I'd like to get to know him better b/c I've never had a professor who explained everything so well and is so enthusiastic. It is a huge lecture class, and it's a challenging course so a lot of students go to office hours to ask questions. Therefore, I've never been able to go up to him and introduce myself since there are usually a lot of other students around and everyone's in a hurry to get their questions asked.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should do to know him better and get him to know my name? I'm interested in his astronomy research, and would like to talk to him about that, and I think a good place to start is to get him to know my name.

Thanks for any advice!

Email him and tell him you're interested in his research and that you would like to meet. Is all about persistence.

Yes, I thought about it, but unfortunately, he doesn't make appointments outside of office hours.

Your professor is a human being. He uses the telephone, e-mail, etc. He has interests outside of the classroom, not limited to research. If you want to get involved in his research e-mail him. If you don't get a response in a week, drop by his office outside of his office hours or contact his secretary. He doesn't want contact about class things outside of his office hours. He obviously meets with other people outside of them...

Thats how my professors are. They want to enjoy life like the rest of us. They actually encourage people to stop by their office and talk about things not school related. I wish I didn't have class during their office hours! -_-
