In most cases where academic standards are changed, they are just going to end up collecting tuition for longer on a student that ultimately won't pass. Let's them feel good about themselves being accommodating and still make $. Sad but true. Yes, there might be the occasional student who truly does have just one bad term and can recover, but that isn't usually what this is.
