when AMCAS says the program deadline is octorber 15th what does that mean???

it means your AMCAS has to be submitted and then processed (which takes a month more or less) by oct15. it's too late to apply to those schools now.

it might even be too late for nov1 deadlines.

okay assuming I keep the nov 1 schools, what happens if I dont get verified in time???

OK that's scary, because I submitted mine Sep 23rd and it's not yet verified...I believe most of my deadlines are Nov 1 or 15 though...

hahaha 5 mins and you're bumping up a thread? that's a bad anal premed. bad boy. shoo.

and if the deadline passes and you're not verified, you lost a $30x, where x is the number of schools w/ a nov1 deadline.

That just doesn't make sense...how on earth are applicants supposed to know how long their AMCAS gets verified? If they take so long why don't they just make a submit deadline that is earlier? 😕

AMCAS does state quite specifically that it can take 4-6 weeks to get processed once your primary application is submitted.

I agree that if a school has a deadline in October or November, you are pretty much screwed to send in your secondary application and have it complete by then.

"All deadlines are set by the individual medical schools for each of their program types and represent when materials must be received by AMCAS. Submit materials as soon as possible to avoid processing delays and missed deadlines. Materials received during peak periods may take considerably longer to process. Furthermore, processing does not begin until AMCAS receives all required official transcripts and the completed application. Official transcripts for regular applicants must be received within 14 calendar days after the application deadline. Applications that are returned for correction do not satisfy deadline requirements. "

That is directly from the amcas website. I think this implies that your materials have to be recieved by amcas not processed and sent by the deadline except for your transcript which can be recieved as late as 14 days after the deadline. i'm in the same boat so I hope this is right.

shrugs. if they made it easier for us, where's the fun in that? haha jk.

"2 What is meant by an AMCAS deadline?

An AMCAS deadline is the date by which the application and fee must be received by AMCAS. You must certify and submit your web-application and pay the fee by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) of the deadline date. It is NOT the date that the application must be received by your designated medical school(s)."

This is straight off the AAMC website, so if program deadline = AMCAS deadline then just make sure you have your apps in by 11:59pm EST on Sunday if you're planning on applying to any of the Oct 15th schools. Good luck

I've seen a ton of misinformation on SDN about this. To clear it all up:

1) As long as your AMCAS is submitted by Oct. 15, you'll still receive secondaries and be able to send in LORs, etc.

2) If you miss the Oct. 15 deadline, this simply means you can no longer apply to these schools, but can still apply the the many schools with later deadlines (e.g. Nov 1, Nov 15, Dec 1, Dec 15).

well now i don't know who is correct. i had been talking to an adcom member and this is what i had posted is what they told me pretty much verbatim. gooddoctor seems to be pretty confident that he's right, and my source is a second-hand source so those of you who are submitting now can choose between us. i apologize if my information is wrong.

Oops, I didn't mean to point fingers. 😳 I'm usually more of a lurker around SDN, and I always enjoy your posts. 😀

There have been a few threads over the past few days that said EVERYTHING had to be to the school by Oct. 15 or that ALL schools had the same deadline of Oct. 15, etc. Schools have different deadlines for the 3 steps in the admissions process: 1) AMCAS 2) Secondary 3)Interview. It would not make sense to have AMCAS and Secondary deadlines on the same day since the school would then have no time to send you a secondary. Check the AMCAS site citations above by Oshoedr and kdburton for confirmation.

Also, different "programs" at different schools often have different deadlines. My state school for example has Nov. 1 for MD, but Dec 15 for MD/PhD AMCAS deadline.
