So if you're applying this cycle, you will notice there are 4 sections in the application as follows: 1. "Personal Information" 2. "Academic History" 3. "Support Information" and lastly 4. "Program Materials".

As far as I'm concerned, the Program Materials section is basically the supplementary application section for individual schools. Do I have access to this section AFTER I submit my application? Because I'm unsure of whether I'm going to apply to more schools or not (aka work on more supplementary applications) in the future as of now. I don't want to have to delay submitting my application because of this uncertainty.

TL;DR Is it okay to submit the application after finishing the "Personal Information", "Academic History", "support information" sections and add on to "Program Materials" later as I go?

I would appreciate any thoughtful response.
Thank you in advance.

Yes, if you submit to a school that doesn't have extra supplemental questions in Program Materials (although you'd still have to "match" the prerequisites), you can still work on other schools' program materials later.

Can someone please confirm? Is someone currently working the "Program Materials" section after having submitted their application?

So I don't have to answer those NYU questions in the "program marierals" section? I can submit and just work on them later?

If you have NYU added, then you have to complete it. However, what you CAN do is have only one school added for now, submit the application, and THEN add more schools to do the "program materials" sections. Is that what you're doing?

I added all the schools I am planning to apply, and submitted the schools individually. In other words, you can just add all schools now and submit only the schools with completed program materials section. NYU is still in my schools list on AADSAS but I did not submit my application for NYU yet since I haven't finished its program materials section. However, I submitted to other schools, which I have completed their program materials section.

Oh.... I didn't know you could send the application individually haha (I thought that once you hit the "Submit" button the application gets sent to the selected schools all at once). Thanks for the info

Wait, how do you submit individually? Isn't there one giant "Submit" button which submits the primary application?

There is one giant "Submit All" button at the top, and individual "submit" buttons under each school's name. Once you have completed each school's program materials section, those school's "submit" button will light up.
And if you click "submit" button, you are submitting your primary application to the schools you want to. But once you click it, you cannot change most part of your primary application (but you can add new experiences even after).

Cool! Thanks for the explanation. Just wondering though, is it possible to "submit" for each school BUT not "Submit All" for the primary application?

So is the "Program Materials" section for sure the supplemental app for schools? As in I won't get an email later from certain schools saying I have to fill out a secondary (unless specified like in Boston University's case where they tell you you'll get an email)?

Not exactly. Some will only have their questions on AADSAS, like you said. Others will send you an email with a supplemental if you qualify past the first round or whatever. Some schools have a secondary on their websites that you can access whenever, and will need to fill it out and submit on your own in a timely manner (Creighton, Penn, Western, just to name some off the top of my head). Some have questions on AADSAS but will email you to fill out something else later (like UCLA's "personal history form", whatever that is).

The best way to keep track (at least for me!) is to go onto your Program Materials, click on each school, and thoroughly read the "HOME" tab for each school. It typically will have a list explaining exactly what you need to do. Make a spread sheet to keep track. If they have a supplemental on their website, copy and paste the link. If you have yet to complete a supplemental, write that down. If you submitted the supplemental or only have to pay the secondary fee on their website, write down the date you received the receipt. I've already found this helpful because all the schools tend to blend in your mind after a certain point.
But the "HOME" tab is really the key here to keep it all straight.

Great thanks! As I'm going through the process I can indeed see that some schools have a separate secondary application, while some don't. Now in terms of deadlines, is it recommended to have the AADSAS application in by mid July, or are you supposed to have both the AADSAS application and the corresponding secondary application in by mid- July?

No prob! I'm so type A with timelines that I try preach the gospel of spreadsheets whenever possible.
Not sure... AADSAS first for sure since they need to verify the GPAs, scores, etc. But I've already started to find that the secondaries are a bigger pain in my butt than AADSAS was, so I wouldn't leave them till much later either since some schools won't even look at you without them, and because you might find you thought it would take you a day to write three prompts, but it's really taking 10 days, you know?
So I guess just ASAP? Can't really speak to specifics...
