It's really up to the program. Many EM programs chose to wait until Nov 1st to see the MSPE and then fill their interview slots. Others chose not to and just go ahead and fill all of their interview slots as the applications roll in. Either way, they will get really good applicants and if you submit your application early enough, you will not be missed.

You should realize that many people cancel many interviews. Programs send out more interview invites as spots open up from cancellations. This is also why it's important for you to cancel early if you think you are going to cancel.

In the end, remember that it's still quite early. Our program has sent out no interviews to people that didn't rotate with us, because dean's letters only came out today. This should be a big week for hearing from programs that you haven't heard from yet.
