I'm curious what faculty here do / have done to draw attention to their labs for the purposes to improving the numbers of folks applying to them. I'm particularly interested in what folks have done when the school is in a less geographically desirable location and students aren't as likely to be looking there anyway just to enjoy the area.

APA and conventions can get you exposure to some (albeit it a relatively small) portion of undergraduates looking for programs. I'm open to any ideas.

Thanks.

I'm in Year 1 of a faculty position attempting to do just that. Here's what I've done so far:

--Created a lab website including my lab's research objectives, current projects, and lab updates
--Included my lab url on my business card (when distributing at conferences)
--Put the lab url in my email signature
--Keep a public, active academic twitter account
--Updated my professional network about my lab (to encourage word-of-mouth to their undergraduates)
--Have reached out to undergrads in my current program who are doing well in my courses to talk more about their future and grad school interests (usually unrelated to my lab, but it's occasionally come up if they're looking for research experience or want to stay in the area for grad school)
