Hi all,

I will be applying to med school this June and needed some clarification on a few things. I am applying for a research position and community health position during my gap year. I will be notified of my acceptance into both positions prior to submission of my application. That being said, can I list these two activities on AMCAS? Or would these be things to highlight on secondaries or at interviews?

I just need some clarification on this, as these are two big opportunities for me provided i get them.

If you haven’t begun the position, you shouldn’t/can’t list it. How would you describe something you haven’t started yet? Also, an activity’s start dates cannot be after the month you submit amcas during. Unfortunately, these will have to be something you add to the secondaries in the “any updates or other stuff we should know” question.

Maybe you could start before June and get it on your app? I applied for research funding for the summer and I'm going to start in May to make sure I have time to get things done that I can include. This is super flexible as it's through my school though so not sure how your research position will be.

When are you planning to submit in order to have meaningful experiences that start in May of your application year?

It's going to be added on with the rest of my research, not a separate activity. It's the same research lab just a new project I get to take the lead on and also I still plan to submit early June. Even if it wasn't this way though I think a month of full time work/research adds up to a lot and can be significant. That's gonna be close to 200 hours. Working as an RA full time for a month you'll probably get a better experience than students showing up 5 to 10 hours a week for a semester...
