If you haven't gotten any interviews at this point, it means that your application, for whatever reason, wasn't competitive in comparison to the other applicants. You choices at this point include finding out from an objective observer where you are lacking and try to rectify it for another run at the match next year. This might include some type of fellowship training. You could also consider another career choice. Not everyone who applies gets interviews, and not everyone who interviews gets a spot.
 
Isn't too early still? It seems only 5/56 programs have sent interviews.

Am I missing anything?

Umm...with only a couple programs having sent out invites it seems WAY too early to be abandoning hope just yet. My program hasn't even started reviewing applications yet.

Just relax, hanytakia. This is a stressful time but, unless the are huge holes In your application, try not to panic just yet. The bulk of invites wont go out til January.
 
I think Moravian thought he was posting in the integrated PRS match thread (in which case almost all interview invites are out already)

Is there a formula for how many interview offers each program sends out per spot available? All of these programs can't just be inviting the same select people... or, are they?

I agree, seems strange and what's even more strange is I asked the U Miami program director today if they sent all interviews and he said they haven't sent any yet !!!!!
 
Now that I'm sure I'm on the right thread.....

We don't have a formula at our program. We look at the number of slots, realistically look at how desirable our program is compared to others, and best guess how many people we would need to interview to get a good match. Some programs have figured out what that number is and will likely interview a few more or less depending on the applicant pool.

And yes, the same people get a majority of the interview offers because they are the most competitive. There's always a handful of applicants that really stand out above the rest and they are the most sought after.

If you're still waiting for interviews, hang in there. It's not over. And do yourself a favor.....don't keep calling the program coordinators about the interviews. They have enough to do and it gets annoying.

Does anybody have any knowledge about the pros and cons of any programs or at least what you guys might have heard, as I for one have no idea other than what I read from their respective websites. Things I'm looking for:
1. Operative cases and breadth
2. OR autonomy
3. Working atmosphere (civil vs. malignant)
4. Board pass rates etc...

I wanted to keep the early interviews because most are in March and I am spreading them out to accommodate my co-residents and the call schedule. Sorry! If anything changes I will let you know.

Does anyone know how many interviews on average one should attend b/c it is getting too expensive and we haven't even heard from half the programs yet.
