Hey,

I've been working on my ps, and I know i have 5300 characters to work with, but do you guys think I should push to use all of it up.

I was told by many ppl not to overload with a bunch of facts about myself, so I made it fairly concise. I stuck to just a few things that I felt rounded out my PS and ended with 4600 characters.

I guess I could add in some other stuff about myself to fill up the last 700 characters, but I don't want to seem to random/rambly/incohesive. Any thoughts? Thanks for ur imputs!

Don't add anything extra. If it's fine as it is, just keep it. Mine is like 4400 characters.

I had 3 characters to spare, but didn't feel like I needed to write that much. I just wrote what I felt would accurately describe me and my interest in medicine. Anything between 4000 and 5300 sounds like enough to me. Don't worry about adding anything unless you think it will help strengthen the statement. Maybe look into opening with or adding a story about a clinical experience?

I was always taught that if you can say the same thing using 5 words instead of 10, use the 5 words. Your PS is a chance for adcoms to get to know you in a way that may not be evident in your actual application. Use the opportunity well and use whatever amount of space that it takes to convey your story. That being said, stay concise and don't add unnecessary details that don't enhance your story. Give the readers a chance to get to know through 2-3 key examples, ECs, experiences...etc of how you got where you are now and what has driven you towards medicine.

And if you are having a hard time with direction or being concise, don't be afraid to tap into the PS readers list and send one of us your PS to read.

thx guys! this really helps. time to edit and submit!
