I asked my professor to write me a letter of recommendation. She said in an email "if at all possible" to bring my transcript, resume, and PS. Well I haven't started writing my PS yet! If I apply this cycle, it'll be later (I'm taking the MCAT in August) but most likely I will be applying next cycle and that's why I haven't written it yet.

Should I tell her that I haven't written it yet or should I try to draft one in a day before I meet her? The if at all possible line seems to give me leeway.

What do you think? Maybe I made a mistake by asking too early or something.

It's ok to tell her you haven't written one yet but you'll need to be able to tell her why you want to go into medicine (verbally describe what your PS is supposed to do). You could also write a draft or outline your PS and fill in any stories/descriptions when you meet with her verbally so she'll be able to refer to it and remember what you said.

Be honest. Explain that you're not certain when you will be applying, but that you were hoping to get a LoR now when the information about you is "fresh". Of course, you can show her your transcript and resume. Learn from others, like me. I always intended to ask a PI for a LoR, and I did finally, but it would have been much better if I had asked her when we worked together.
