So I have quite a bit of research experience. If I devote a section of how I see research fitting into my future is that a red flag? In the sense that I'm interested in research but am not applying MD/PhD?

Also there's a theme in my ECs that tie back in w/ a life event. Do I need to go into major detail in my PS or can I touch on it and assume they will see the relationship? I'd like them to know where I'm coming from but I'm running out of space and don't want to waste it on stuff I don't need to

Not a problem, especially at schools with research as part of their mission (usually higher-ranked schools, if your stats are at their median!).

It's pretty common for adcoms to split up the application into parts to review it faster. The person reviewing your PS may not have seen your ECs. Don't repeat the whole description (especially if you marked it most meaningful), but give it context.
