Hey guys,

So quick question when it comes to counting a course toward my BCPM.. I'm planning on taking a course that's a precursor to my upper level neurobiology courses, but unfortunately, the course is in the psych department, which typically doesn't fall under that category.

That being said, the course title is behavioral neuroscience (formerly "the brain and the mind") and the course material is entirely biological with little emphasis on the typical psych topics. Most of the course is structured around learning about neurotransmitters, synaptic interactions, evolutionary bio with respect to the nervous system.

Sooooooo could I list it as a biology course? Opinions?

Absolutely.

I will be taking Behavioral Neuroscience as well in the future, and I will be listing it as a BCPM course. Designation is based on course content, despite classification under a PSY/PSYC heading or whatever your school uses.

Don't enter the course into AMCAS with a different heading (such as BIO/BIOL) but definitely designate the course as BCPM with the checkbox. Just clarifying.

Cool, thanks! And yeah, I'll still list it as psych.. I just meant could I categorize it under the Bio section of BCMP haha. Poor word choice on my part 😛

See I have trouble with my Abnormal Psych course in this realm too. It was definitely about the pathology of the brain and less about psychology.

Then list it as BCPM. Worst that can happen is that they'll change it back. And if they do, you can appeal that.
