i've perused threads on sdn regarding appropriate interview attire. i'm wondering how conservatively we should dress for psych interviews. much like the stereotypical female shrink, i tend to love colors and off-beat fashions. the idea of going to an interview in the cookie cutter black or navy suit, and consequently killing my personality, kinda turns me off. i'm not saying i'd go in a neon pink mini skirt with matching go-go boots or nothing. i just wonder how much personality psychs would want us to convey through our attire on the big day. thoughts?

How about a pic with those "go-go boots"?

😉

Don't pour chili sauce over your truffles.
Let the clothing serve as a neutral background to your sparkling personality.
Save the hot pants and go-go boots for intern orientation.

I didn't wear a black/navy suit- it looks really odd to see a whole crowd in dark suits- but I didn't wear the most flamboyant suit either. Colored suits, as long as they aren't loud or bold patterns, are fine and a nice dress works too. I got a few comments on my clothes- mostly along the lines of "I didn't want to wear black either."

what color did you opt for? i was thinking like a dark red. or a pinstripe pattern. i have this black/brown pinstripe suit i could try. but it's kinda on the summer/fall thin material side. i'm guessing a heavier suit would be in order for the december/january interview timespan.

I had a pearl-colored skirt suit and also a tweed dress with yellow and pink highlights. Unless you're cold a lot of the time, I would recommend wearing things on the light side for the season, preferably in layers so that you can put on/take off as needed. Try to find out ahead of time how long the tour is- for many places, heels are a bad idea.
