Hi there.
thanks for taking the time to read this.
i'll keep it short.

what programs require step II as part of the initial application?

when is the latest you can take step II without hurting your application?

thank for your responses!

any takers?

i am mainly interested in knowing how late i can take step II without hurting my application. (i realize this is a tricky question - i am just looking for a little perspective from those wiser than me.)

thanks in advance.

I think having it done prior to rank lists would prevent any issues from arising, and I believe there have been rule changes in just the past year or two that have made programs in some states HAVE to have your score prior to ranking you. Or at least that's what I understood last year from some of the MA programs.

billypilgrim37, May I ask what MA programs?

I applied to several and I will NOT have my step 2 scores in time for the match. -- And thanks to the scheduling lottery, I really cannot move up my testing date from mid-late December, so that's not an option.

I did see that Longview said it was strongly suggested (or a similar phrase) and had been debating if that meant it was not worth going on the interview.

I would second U4iA's question about which programs are going to have a serious problem with this.

could anyone elaborate on this?

which programs require step II scores?

Longwood has already emailed us pestering us for our step 2 scores- they want to know them asap and said we need to have passed CK and CS by Feb 1. They are the only place I've applied to that have requested them..

Just took CK on Friday....yuck. 👎

Our deans told us that in order to be sure programs would have the scores before rank-lists were due, to take it by the end of December. (This time-frame was supposedly also to allow a "safety cushion" - I forget how many weeks she said it was supposed to take, but she said it could take up to 8 weeks [peak season, unforseen snafu's, etc.] and I seem to recall [when I looked at my calendar] that from the end of Dec it's exactly 8 weeks until rank lists are due...)

I don't know of any programs that have a hard and fast rule about it, although as Carlene mentioned it's strongly encouraged by longwood for instance.

Not one program has asked me about when my CS scores will be in other than longwood (took CK in time for hte scores to go out with on the first date you could submit ERAS)

I and several of my friends have been told my various PDs that it's very case specific. I.e. if you're an FMG,better have everything in before ROLs are due. If you've failed step 1, better have them all in. If step 1 was marginal, better have it all in.

If you scored a 99 on Step 1, they're not going tobe as concerned.

And they're really not going to be concerned if you've at least scheduled CS early enough that if you DO fail, you have time to retake it and getscores before intern year.

Obviously this does not apply for EVERY program, just most of the ones I and my friends have talked to about this issue.
