I am currently in a psychology program and I was recently turned down by a competitive undergraduate communication disorders program. I am looking to apply to graduate audiology programs, but am wondering if I have a realistic chance to gain admission with a psychology degree. I'm a junior with a 3.4 GPA and am active within the university. Just wondering if anyone here with similar credentials has been accepted into audiology programs. Thanks!

Honestly, I think you'd definitely have a chance. Many health professions are seeing an influx of psych majors including optometry and podiatry. Audiology has a whole patient counseling aspect to it that would likely relate to your psychology experience. Also, your GPA isn't bad; keep the grades up, try to do well on the GRE and see if you can shadow an audiologist.

From my understanding, the field is currently trying to bring in more non-traditional applicants (pre-med, bio, chem, psychology) too, so don't sell yourself short. In your admission essay definitely touch on the aspects of psychology as they relate to patient counseling/understanding, etc.

Hope this helps. 🙂
