Guys, I have kind of a weird question.

An acquaintance of mine is having a lot of financial trouble at the moment and while he's about to take on 2 or 3 new jobs, I started thinking "hey, studies pay a bit of money sometimes!"

This may be a long shot... but does anybody have any ideas about where one could go LOOK for these studies? Usually psychologists go looking for participants rather than the other way around, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

(If it helps, he's in a large city in the US)

Hospital/research center websites are a good place to look - there's usually a link to what studies are being done and how to become a participant.

One of our free daily newspapers always has a research participant section as well (it's the only paper I read, so it's the only one I know about....)

Good luck to your friend!

Yup, check hospital/university websites and newspapers.

Also - find a place that will buy blood platelets. Friend of mine made a quick 75 bucks doing that.

A weird question from RayneeDeigh? I have never heard of such a thing!

Doesn't anyone remember or read former (RECENT) threads? Remember this one on making big dollars by participating in research. Boston, NYC, etc.

Or maybe, you should just tell your friend to move to Canada since you get free healthcare and you get paid for being single!😱

Excellent ideas guys, thanks!

GS, I did remember the thread, that's what gave me the idea in the first place.

If he's going to do that, make sure he is careful; I have this recurring image of Norm MacDonald in "Dirty Work" after eating the brownie...driving with Gary Coleman:scared:Freaky stuff.

Sell plasma! 👍 My husband used to make some decent pocket money doing it (~$300). However, I'm not sure if they're still paying this as that was looong ago and individuals I know who have done it more recently only got paid about half that. Of course, it may have helped that he's got some screwy stuff going on w/ his blood & plasma, so they're always hounding him to give it up. Worth a look at any rate!

You guys are so smart. 🙂

I never knew what the "ETC" on craigslist meant so I've never clicked it before (I'm so bright, it confused me that it wasn't "etc.") I looked for his area and there's TONS of stuff.

PS - not that this has anything to do with anything, but did you know that if you're currently enrolled in a 4-year university program or grad school, you can make $1000 a month just donating sperm 3 times a week? That's INSANE!

Oh and since you're all so smart... does anyone know why it says I'm a "health student" and how I can get that to go away?

I think it is because you will be a grad student, though I don't know why you are a health student and not a "psychology student" like some others. Then again, I am nothing (apparently, lol) so who knows.

If you go to your profile you can change what you have selected. I'm not sure how they decided what to put it as to begin with - I started off as a health student, then got promoted to "practicing doctor" before I changed anything, then figured it out and selected psychology, which was actually displaying as "psychiatry student" and now it appears to be working correctly!

In conclusion, go to "Edit profile" or something like that.

Yeah, that was a glitch in the matrix or something. 😀 Glad it got fixed.

Great, now we're all rehab sci students.

What the heck is going on? haha.

Righteous bucks! How does this work? Are there at least attractive assistants on hand to help?

Anyone remember the scene in The Right Stuff where the astronauts are in the bathroom stalls trying to provide sperm samples and one of them starts sing the Star Spangled Banner? Or remember, the Woody Allen routine in Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask in which he is sperm who doesn't want to go?

Wow, I never knew about the "ETC" section on Craigslist either. I'm moving to Chicago in August to begin grad school, and a lot of these studies seem like they'd be quick and easy ways to pull in $50 here and $200 there. Thanks!

And back to the topic in general, I always enjoyed participating in labs at my undergrad, but our compensation was always for extra credit in courses. If only I could've made money off of that... lol
