What traits are helpful for a psychiatrist to have? (ie, vs IM, etc)

Historical quote from SDN, by Anasazi:

Intelligence, patience, "psychologically minded," open mindedness, analytical thinker, able to distance oneself yet remain empathetic, endurance, good memory, strong verbal skills, strong medical background, debonair, suave and ability to handle a Sig Sauer P226 pistol with alarming accuracy, among many others[...]
in addition of course to the full attainment of ninja master.

LMFAO...now all I have to do is get a P226...ninja master...pffff

hmm..

OK but wait, seriously do many psychiatrists own/bring guns to the office?

(this is my perfect excuse for the wife, now to go shopping...tee hee)

My God I hope not!
There is no way you should EVER get yourself into a situation of needing a firearm with a patient. If you begin to feel uncomfrotable you get up and leave you don't wait for things to degenerate.
That said given the ridiculously high prevalence of firearms in the US (if you will excuse my personal opinion) and the number of patients who have swords and such like in a country like Australia where firearms are very restricted, there may be a problem with patients having ready access to guns...
